Jenny & Billy | Duck Calls & Soccer Balls

If you’ve been around me while I am shooting a wedding, you have probably noticed how excited I get to see something new and unique happening. Well, I had never had the privilege of hearing a bride do duck calls during the reception toasts, and also never watched my Bride and Groom play soccer (in cleats!) at a park during cocktail hour, until Jenny & Billy!

I already knew how sweet this Bride was, when before I even met her I said “I can have a meeting now, or in two weeks, but if you choose now I have to bring my baby with me”. Not only did she say to bring him, but didn’t even get the least annoyed when my then 3 month old started crying while we had our coffee and discussed plans! Discussing plans for the wedding I’m going to shoot is one thing. Getting there on the Big Day and seeing how many amazing details were so thoughtfully put together is another. This bride hand crafted table numbers to go perfectly with her centerpieces and even had her brother’s cuff links designed with an inside joke. Of course they had the Oregon colors of green and yellow popping up everywhere from the garter and bridesmaids dresses to the groomsmen’s matching socks. Once the gown was on, it was such a neat moment to capture as the realness of the day came over Jenny, and she said she could feel her heart fluttering, just getting excited for everything to happen. It’s these little moments that make me happy that I am there from start to finish. Now this close group of friends they chose as their wedding party was just that.. a party. Only the girls will know how much bonding happened over all the Bridal “prep” that morning! I’ll just say Jenny has one amazingly dedicated group of bridesmaids. The groomsmen did a great job as well- but I think the girls deserve an award!
Thanks to the attention to detail by wonderful wedding planners, there was no lull while waiting for the attendants to make their way down the aisle. Once the guests arrived and signed the guest book, they made their way to their seats and got to take in a stunning (and unblocked!) view of downtown Austin. The ceremony was beautiful as the guests got to know more about how Jenny and Billy met playing soccer on opposite teams, and the family they already have started at home with their furry children Dempsey and Howard. Once the vows were said and everything became official, the celebration never stopped! The speeches were emotional and hysterical, as Jenny found out from her dad about the first time she really ever tried a little alcohol, and also as her “little” brother showed off a slideshow of both Jenny and Billy growing up and coming together. The music got everyone out of their seats and the dance floor never emptied, even when you could hear the crazy Texas storms outside threatening to damper after party plans. You could tell how close these friends were with each song sparking memories and more often than not leading to lip-syncing, air guitars, crazy dance moves and getting the groom up in the air in crowd surfing style. And who else would have their DJ announce that it was my birthday weekend?? Even once the exit lines were formed for their farewell, the party wasn’t over. This crew kept it going on 6th Street… and might be glad now that I didn’t follow along with my camera!

    • It really was a great wedding to be a photographer in Austin! Downtown Austin has great wedding venues, and I’m so glad they chose the downtown Austin Hilton. The green made the wedding photos really pop!

    • What a sweet compliment, Lori! I’m so glad I could work soccer into their wedding portraits. Being an Austin wedding photographer is a blast, and when I have couples like this it’s all worth while! The colors added so much to the photos as well ❤
